Abstract

The research conducted to answer questions 1. What are the freshmen’s types of motivation in learnig English at English education study program of Artha Wacana Christian University Kupang? 2. What are the fershmen’s strategies in learning English at English education study program of Artha Wacana Christian University Kupang? The thesis focuses on the motivation and strategy in learning English . The data will be taken by giving questionnaire as the isntrument. The participants were 12 students. The aims of this research are 1. To describe the freshmen’s types of motivation in learning English At english education study program of Artha Wacana Christian University Kupang. 2. To describe the freshmen’s strategies in learning English at English education study progran of Artha Wacana Christian University Kupang. Students motivation to learn English because of the fun atmosphere, the teacher who delivered the material well and the material is easy to understand. The factors behind the motivation to learn English as they like the atmosphere of the English class, are interested in the way English is used in conversation, and believe that students will be able to read and understand most of the texts in English if students continue to study them, nervous and confused when students speak in English class, students also feel learning English, is very interesting, besides that students are also motivated to learn a lot English, students very enjoy learning English. The way teachers motivate students begins with teachers realizing the importance of motivation.
