Abstract

Tulisan ini berjudul Peran Tua Adat dalam Gereja: Suatu Tinjauan Historis terhadap Peran Tua Adat dalam Pertumbuhan dan Perkembangan Jemaat GMIT Luz Toineke dari Tahun 1969-2024. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sejarah terbentuk dan perkembangan jemaat Luz Toineke, memahami peran tua adat dalam kehidupan bergereja, serta merefleksikan secara teologis keberadaan tua adat dalam pertumbuhan dan perkembangan jemaat. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif-historis. Setiap data yang ada diperoleh melalui observasi dan wawancara terhadap para pendeta, majelis jemaat, tua adat, dan anggota jemaat. Dalam hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa sejak berdirinya Jemaat GMIT Luz Toineke pada tahun 1969, tua adat mempunyai peran yang penting dalam mendukung kehidupan bergereja. Tua adat memiliki fungsi sebagai mediator dalam penyelesaian masalah, pemberi nasihat, penggerak kebersamaan, serta pendukung dalam berbagai kegiatan gerejawi dan sosial. Keberadaan tua adat berkontribusi terhadap pertumbuhan jemaat, baik secara kuantitatif maupun kualitatif, melalui terciptanya hubungan yang harmonis, bergotong royong, serta meningkatnya partisipasi jemaat dalam kehidupan persekutuan. Penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa hubungan antara tua adat dan gereja mengalami perubahan, terutama pada periode 2021-2024, yang ditandai dengan kurangnya komunikasi dan keterlibatan tua adat dalam gereja. Secara teologis, kehadiran tua adat menunjukan bahwa Allah bekerja dalam kebudayaan dan bahwa gereja dipanggil menjadi komunitas yang kontekstual, yang menghormati dan memanfaatkan nilai-nilai budaya lokal sebagai sarana pelayanan. Oleh sebab itu, kerja sama yang harmonis antara gereja dan tua adat perlu terus dibangun demi menjaga persatuan dan mendukung pertumbuhan Jemaat GMIT Luz Toineke. This paper is titled The Role of Traditional Elders in the Church: A Historical Review of the Influence of Traditional Elders in the Growth and Development of the GMIT Luz Toineke Congregation from 1969-2024. This paper aims to find out the history of the formation and development of the Luz Toineke congregation, understand the role of traditional elders in church life, and reflect theologically on the existence of traditional elders in the growth and development of the congregation. The method used in this study I is a qualitative research method with a descriptive-historical approach. Each existing data was obtained through observation and interviews with pastors, congregational assemblies, traditional elders, and members of the congregation. The results of this study show that since the establishment of the GMIT Luz Toineke Congregation in 1969, traditional elders have had an important role in support church life. Traditional elders have functions as mediators in solving problems, giving advice, driving togetherness, and supporters in various ecclesiastical and social activities. The existence of traditional elders contributes to the growth of the congregation, both quantitatively and qualitatively, through the creation of harmonious relationships, mutual cooperation, and increased participation of the congregation in the life of the community. The study also found that the relationship between traditional elders and the church has changed, especially in the 2021-2024 period, which is characterized by a lack of communication and involvement of traditional elders in the church. Theologically, the presence of traditional elders shows that God is at work in culture and that the church is called to be a contextual community, one that respects and utilizes local cultural values as a means of service. Therefore, harmonious cooperation between the church and traditional elders needs to continue to be built in order to maintain unity and support the growth of the GMIT Luz Toineke Congregation.
