Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between English learning strategies and the thinking styles of ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri 14 Kupang. This study uses a quantitative correlational approach with data collection through questionnaires and classroom observations. Respondents in this study were 20 ninth-grade students of SMP Negeri 14 Kupang. The survey results show (48%) of the total respondents stated very often that learning strategies help them in learning English. This shows that almost half of the respondents feel that learning strategies are very beneficial. In addition, (40%) of the respondents stated often, indicating that most students feel that strategies are quite effective and support their learning process. On the other hand, only (12%) of the respondents answered sometimes, indicating that there is a small group that may not fully felt the benefits of the strategies consistently. In conclusion, majority of respondents feel that learning strategies are very helpful in improving their English skills, although there are a small number who still teel the benefits irregularly Students felt the benefits of relaxed and interactive classroom interactions, although the use of learning media was still limited. The correlation test results showed an r value of 0.094 with a significance level of 0.661 (p > 0.05), indicating that the relationship between learning strategies and students' thinking styles is very weak and not statistically significant. This indicates that students' choice of learning strategies is not always strictly determined by their thinking styles at the school. Based on these findings, it is recommended that teachers develop more varied learning media and methods to accommodate students' individual preferences to improve the effectiveness of English learning.
