Abstract

This research aims to perceive the used of audiovisual materials by the teacher in teaching numbers to junior high school. The writer formulated three research question namely, (1) what are the types of audiovisual materials used for teaching numbers, (2) how does the teacher get the sources of audiovisual materials, and (3) what are the challenges using audiovisual materials. Aims of this research are, to know the types of audiovisual materials used for teaching numbers, to know how does the teacher get the sources of audiovisual materials and to know the challenges using audiovisual materials. The data was taken from interview using in-depth interview techniques with the English teacher then the writer transcribed, identified, clasified and analyzed the data in conducting this research by using descriptive qualitative method. The result proves that the audiovisual materials that used by the teacher for teaching numbers are four types such as objects, demonstration, handout and audio video in order to help the students easy to understand and memorize the material. Besides the four types the teacher get the sources from internet by download and textbook from the school. There also the teacher found two challenges using the audiovisual materials such as time constrains and professional knowledge and technical know how.
