Abstract

This study was conducted under the title “ A Descriptive Study Of Negation In Mehara Dialect Of Hawu Language”. The writer formulated one research problemto observe and get the data for the research, that is: what are the types of negation used in Mehara Dialect of Hawu Language. The aims of this research to find out and to analyze the types of negation in Mehara dialect of Hawu language. This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection technique was interview. Based on the research, it showed that there are five negative particles of negation in Mehara Dialect such as ad’o‘no’ and ‘not’, ad’o dae ‘not yet’, dae d’o ‘not yet’, b’ole ‘don’t’ and d’o ‘no’ and ‘not’. While the types of the negation is analytic negation type especially to negate predicates. In negate predicates are divided into verbal predicate, adjective predicate, noun predicate, possesive predicate and adverb predicate. In verbal predicate used the particles ad’o, ad’o dae, dae d’o, b’ole and d’o. In adjective predicate used the particles ad’o and ad’o dae. In noun predicate and possesive predicate used the particle ad’o, then in adverb predicate used the particle ad’o dae. Thus, the five negative particles of negation include in type analytic negation especially in negate predicates.
