Abstract

This research is entitled An Analysis of Translation Method Used by Sixth Semester Students in Translating Song Lyrics of Ariana Grande’s Thank You, Next from English to Indonesian. This research was conducted with two research questions, as follows: This research conducted dealing with a research question as follows: What are the types of translation methods used by sixth semester students in translating song lyric of Ariana Grande’s Thank You, Next from English to Indonesian? To answer this question, the writer applied qualitative methods and took the data from the song lyric translation by the sixth semester students of the English department of Artha Wacana Christian University in the academic year 2022/2023. Moreover, the writer used the theories of the translation method proposed by Newmark. At the end of the study, the writer found out that the students used word-for-word translation, literal translation, faithful translation, semantic translation, adaptation, free translation, and communicative translation to translate the song lyric. So, in conclusion, the writer can say that the students already understand about translation method and it can be seen through the way they involved translation method in their translation work.
