Abstract

Semantics is commonly known as the study of meaning in a language. This Study Entitled: “A SEMANTIC ANALYSIS OF METAPHOR IN THE NORTH AMANATUN DIALECT OF UAB METO”. This research analyzed about semantic analysis of metaphor found in the North Amanatun Dialect of Uab Meto”. The purposes of this research are: (1) Identifying the types of metaphor which are found in the North Amanatun Dialect” and (2) identifying the dominant types of metaphor in the North Amanatun Dialect of Uab Meto. This research is analyzed by using descriptive qualitative method because the writer uses description based on the quality comprehensive in the analysis. Based on the metaphor classification the theory of Ullman, 2009: 266-270, the writer found that there are four types of metaphor in the North Amanatun Dialect including Concrete to Abstract Metaphors, Anthropomorphic Metaphors, Synesthetic Metaphors, and Animal Metaphors. Meanwhile the writer also found that the dominant type of metaphor is concrete to abstract metaphors with the number 12 Sentences, followed by the Anthropomorphic Metaphors and Synesthetic Metaphors are 5 sentences for each type, and the last type is Animal Metaphor. The results of this research could be extra information in studying semantic meaning that focused on metaphor, forms of metaphor, and metaphorical meanings.
