Abstract
Translation methods are used to translate a text from various sources such as song lyric, newspaper, novels, even translated texts in popular movies so that the translation results are directed and easy to understand. The writer investigates translation methods used in Wednesday movie with the research problem: what are the types of translation methods that found in English-Indonesia subtitle of Wednesday movie? This study aims to find out and describe the types of translation methods according to Newmark (1988) found in English-Indonesia subtitles of Wednesday movie. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The data were taken from the first episode of Wednesday's movie. The writer classified the data in the form of sentences and phrases which are divided based on each translation method. The results show that there are eight types of translation methods used, namely word-for-word translation, literal translation, faithful translation, semantic translation, adaptation translation, free translation, idiomatic translation, and communicative translation. Subtitle of Wednesday movie can be understood because the translation results show that the translator translated based on the content and adapts it to the understanding of the target language through sentences or words that are often used by the target language.
