Abstract

This research was conducted by the questions : (1) what are the registers on wulla poddu ceremony in loli subdistrict? (2) what are the types of registers on wulla poddu ceremony? And the aims of this research are (1) to find out the registers on wulla poddu ceremny in loli subdistrict and (2) to find out the types of registers on wulla poddu ceremony. This research is supported by theory from Halliday and Hasan(1985) that register is defined as a configuration of meaning that is typically associated with a particular situational configuration of field, tenor and mode. Descriptive qualitative was used as a method in this research. The results of this research show that the Wulla Poddu ceremony in Loli Subdistrict, there are 21 registers and types of register that is several stages such as take the sacred wallet, throw grass, pray to invite the ancestors, deliver announcements, cut the protective tree, eat sweet potatoes, clean the village, eating together, crazy day celebration, restore sacred objects, thanksgiving to God and event has finished. Those who took part in the Wulla Poddu ceremony were: traditional elder, Kodalaiya (black people welcoming guests), mother and father, and the nine ethnic group. And the language used in the Wulla Podu ceremony is Loli language. The people of Loli Subdistrict are very important and must be held every year. Therefore research on this issue is very important, which means to reintroduce or preserve it so that it is revitalize and understood by future generations and pride in the people of Loli Subdistrict it self and the community in general of Nggiala Koko village, Loli Subdistrict, West Sumba Regency.
